Claude Code is good, Skills is very strong, but for the average user, it can be difficult to get started.
Odds are there are people who have never opened a command line in their lives and don't even know what a command line is.
The emergence of Cowork can be considered to have turned the tide, really allowing the application of Claude Code to be decentralized to non-coding scenarios.
In the words of the father of Claude Code.
“Since we launched Claude Code, we've found that people use it for all sorts of non-coding tasks: conducting vacation research, creating presentations, organizing emails, unsubscribing, recovering wedding photos from their hard drives, monitoring plant growth, and controlling the oven.”
That is, in the presence of a powerful model like Opus, and a modeling base like Claude Code, the line between programmatic and non-programmatic work becomes blurred because, in essence, they are both treatments of logic and process.
Cowork came along to provide this package using a common Agent usage scenario, with a built-in virtual machine, built-in out-of-the-box browser automation support, and support for all data connectors.
For ordinary users, there is no need to install any programming environment, do not need to face the black command line window, may not even need a computer, a cell phone and a dialog box can solve all the problems.
That said, it should be obvious to everyone that it's the Claude version of AnyGen Link and Manus, except that it's based entirely on the Claude Code driver.
Cowork is currently in research preview and is only available to Claude Max subscribers in the macOS app, which is available to subscribers by clicking ”Cowork” in the sidebar.
It feels like Za is really going to be zapped this time, having just spent 2 billion dollars on something that was copied by Claude in less than two weeks.
The greatest significance of general-purpose Agents such as Cowork is that it reduces the difficulty of applying Claude Code to an infinitely low level.
Non-professionals can easily navigate the top of the line models and use the Claude Code Agent dock to perform non-coding tasks of all kinds, such as: vacation research, making PPTs, organizing emails, and recovering hard drive data.
But the bar for this Cowork make is still very much too high!
First you have to be a $200 Max subscriber, you also have to have a Mac, and for domestic users, deal with the instability of the network and the risk of being blocked.
So for now, it is still only a handful of scope of the test phase, the official commercial operation, there is still time.
Of course for readers who have been following Byte Notebook for a while, you can actually experience it without Cowork.
Because Coworyk is essentially a packaged virtual environment, a container based on Claude Code with Skills and connectors layered on top.
